I hate to say it but…

Hitler got it right.

No I’m not advocating the holocaust, but it is a little known fact but Hitler was a vegetarian, from the age of 22 to when he died he was a vegetarian, he made a few slip ups by the sound of it, but Hitler is known to have been against the killing of animals and wanted “a continent without slaughterhouses.” - bare in mind that statement means he would have to take over Europe first (which is bad), but well you get the picture.

Hitler said, “One may regret living at a period when it’s impossible to form an idea of the shape the world of the future will assume. But there’s one thing I can predict to eaters of meat: the world of the future will be vegetarian.” - I actually agree with this.

Food writer Bee Wilson writes that Hitler’s diet was “free of flesh,” describing that his strict vegetarian regime and notes, “It amused him to spoil carnivorous guests’ appetites… As they put their forks down in disgust, he would harangue them for hypocrisy. ‘That shows how cowardly people are,’ he would say. ‘They can’t face doing certain horrible things themselves, but they enjoy the benefits without a pang of conscience.’”

Now of course, Hitler is the hypocrite here with all the terrible things he eventually did, but he himself is the eternal enigma, I mean did he really agree with everything he was doing? Perhaps he was surrounded by people who made him believe the way he eventually believed… maybe the explanation is simple that Hitler was insane, but I must say, when it came to his moral stance on food, I agree. I don’t plan on using him as the example I use to sell people on vegetarianism though.

Casino Royale!

Yes on Sunday I went with my friends Jessie and Freya to see Casino Royale! What can I say about this film, well it totally blew me away, with it’s down to earth feel and a realness I’ve never seen in Bond before. With this all happening around the poisoning of that Russian agent in real life we can see that these spies and intelligence services do exist and they really are doing these sorts of things all the time. I have heard mixed reviews of this film, if you like the story side to James Bond, and the realistic sides of film, like Spooks but without needing to think as much (I fail miserably when I have to think too hard about anything). But another group will find the lack of what made James Bond so cheesy and fun, in the gadgets and comedic characters such as Q, and a smart assed but never the less funny James Bond that these are gone, and if this was the only reason you liked James Bond, then you may well be disappointed, though gadgets fans could be resuscitated by the mobile defibrillator.

No doubt it was still very funny, and I loved the product placement, even if it is distracting, particularly Richard Branson - loved it! I seriously urge you to watch this film, it is well worth it!

This is oh so true…

Borat is dead, Long live the Sacha

For anyone watching the media for the weeks around Borat’s opening you will have seen many interviews with Sache Baron Cohen, but one thing was wrong, it wasn’t Sacha, it was Borat himself. Well after a huge search I have finally found his one interview with the press that wasn’t in character, giving a great insight into the mind set and what is behind Borat.

Sacha Baron Cohen’s Rolling Stone Interview (Well, most of it)

Swimming Gala First!

Yes, that’s right I was first in all the 17 year olds competing at the annual swimming gala in Breaststroke… but I don’t remember winning. That’s what happens when you’re in a race with a 16 year old and a 15 year old, we all came first for our respective ages. Great! Everybody wins! I came second in the race btw, beaten by the 16 year old. =s

Today was rememberance sunday, we will remember them, or whatever, it’s all good, no war, just peace etc. Wore a poppy, reluctantly, my rebelious attitude failed in that respect. Then I tore out my electric guitar in the middle of the service, and everyone was devastated and people cried and the attending Brownies all cheered, no that’s unfortuantely not what happened, I don’t even have an electric guitar. Au revoir.

Write off to a good start…

Well the results are in, my friends mini was a write off, which is a great start for him,if you’re wondering, he doesn’t have the car anymore, thankfully he had full insurance and got the expensive stereo out, but there’s no hope for “Daisy” which is a pity.

All this comes at a time when crashes and statistics about the roads are rife on the news, that and a demonstration of how firefighters deal with crash victims at college can’t exactly help my friend’s recovery process.

Here are some interesting tidbits for you now, Jon Snow has refused to wear a poppy on air on Channel 4 News, calling it just another charity symbol, and saying it would infringe on his impartiality, and personally I agree with him that that is the correct thing to do, it isn’t a legal requirement, and freedom is what our forces fought for. I hope this move brings more change in the future to things like this which ironically take away our freedom. For an incredible almost comic view into what the other side thinks just look at The Sun’s article on the event.

Other things to look out for include go to mess.be and find out how to get your very own live.com/live.ca/live.co.uk/live.nl etc. email addresses now before all the names are snapped up. Let’s just say I registered a far few for friends and me. :) Also I’d like to point out on behalf of my Canadian friend, this photoblog, which looks pretty cool… Durham Township.

Have a nice day!

America Reshuffled

Well well well, finally some moves on the American frontier, a move to democratic government, that’s good. Donald Rumsfeld resigned, that’s also good, hopefully this means war in Iran is very unlikely, Syria too, fingers crossed. I don’t think Fox News will be happy but do they really matter? Not really. George Bush resigned, that’s excellent, oop, not quite oh well.

Back to home, my mate got his license about 4 weeks ago, and his mini 2 weeks ago, and well, 1 week ago he crashed his mini on a corner, “d’oh!” well he’s fine, but the mini it’s touch and go, we all sencerly hope “Daisy” will make a full recovery, but we’ll have to wait and see. Updates will be provided here as always on Darran24.

Heck thats a good name for a blog, don’t you think?
