Belgian girl’s offer to take Net Neutrality fans Virginity (unsurprisingly) a response to Virgin’s Stupidity

You may have read around the web about the Belgian woman, Tania Dervaux, offering to take the virginity of any Net Neutrality supporting guy. What you may not have realised from the (largely American) coverage is that it was a direct response to a story I posted earlier this month, about the Virgin Media CEO calling Net Neutrality “Bollocks”.

You can check out their anti-Virgin Media campaign page, naturally named “Stop Virgin” here, the site everyone else is noticing though is the ahem registration page.

Further research on Miss Dervaux revealed she seems to have done a lot of press stunts before, she runs a fake suicide blog, and allegedly did indeed give out all those blow jobs to fellow Belgians who supported her political party in last year’s elections (though Wikipedia says it was entirely virtual).

Is this girl for real? No of course not, but she’s achieved her cause.

Diary: Life, Learning, Bowling, Love and Long Bike Rides

Well life has gotten a little easier since finished my first week back at university, buried under assignments. Though there is a looming exam which I can’t revise for right now because, we L just can’t find my folder. At least that’s my excuse. I did ok last time, hopefully it’ll be ok this time as well.

Thursday was an interesting day, with my usual selection of excruciatingly boring design lessons, where the design teacher falls head over heels with the most undesirable piece of work I had done in the past 2 weeks, every time. This day I was also reminded that I need to be looking for a house or flat, as to paraphrase one of my classmates “only the shit ones will be left in March”250px-Disco_bowling

In the evening, I went bowling for another classmate of mine’s birthday, you know, it’s not usually that you get to celebrate an attractive popular girl’s 20th birthday by going bowling, and it made a great change, and wasn’t lame, well I was, I wasn’t quite last though.

So that finished, a few went to the union to party afterwards, but I was with a group who were decidedly less enthusiastic, so went back to my flat, only to arrive outside and be dragged 25-01-08_0159back into another taxi for a night at “road mender” which was absolutely terrific, I met friends from my course, found that my flat mates were more connected to them than I would have ever realised, and I even met a girl who was nice, though her facebook implies, as ever, that she is not available. What a wonder this connected world is.

Getting back at around 4am with no reason to get up in the morning has a side effect, you don’t wake up until 4pm, or when your flat mate randomly knocks on your door at 2pm. I got dressed, hopped on my bike had a meal at a supermarket, got some supplies, and somehow found my way eventually to the cinema.

I had intended to either see Sweeney Todd, or Cloverfield. Both movies I’ve been looking forward to for some time. I arrived to find that despite evidence to the contrary I had seen on the (American) Internet, that as with Sweeney Todd in December, Cloverfield isn’t even out for another month. To make matters worse, Sweeney Todd wasn’t even on until 3 hours time.

A compromise needed to be made, so I saw Charlie Wilson’s War.charliebig

Charlie Wilson’s war is based on an “unbelievable true story” which turned out to be a pretty cool movie, how one (woman obsessed) man turned Afghanistan into a secret fighting machine and helped end the soviet empire, almost single handedly. Though without spoiling the ending, which you kind of already know, it’s not all happy.

As one reviewer said, it’s definitely the film you’ll want to watch again. After a long cycle ride back home I argued with my mother who insisted the only reason this Texan must have cared about Afghanistan is oil. Which the film, and his back story, seems to indicate is an ill informed assumption. Though perhaps not for the current administration.

So I find myself here, a day later, without a folder, not doing revision, for an exam on Tuesday. Great.

Heath Ledger dies, at 28, I didn’t even know him.

Picture 2

Well, while mucking around at 3am for no particular reason, I found out that the actor, who plays the joker in the upcoming ‘THE DARK KNIGHT’ movie just died. The movie (according to IMDB) is in post-production, so hopefully we’ll get to see his last work.

Heath Ledger apparently died due to a drug related incident. I hardly knew his acting, but I’ve seen him playing Chaucer’s main (character) dude in A Knight’s Tale. Which I watched, mainly because it might impress someone who liked Chaucer, it didn’t, I don’t think… Ahem.

Anyway, it’s a sad day I guess. RIP.

Drawing Rocks…

Not actual rocks of course, but people, more specifically attractive female people…

Which brings me to a new piece of featured content here at gfxl. This is the kind of drawing I really love and it’s by Zindy Nielsen. i have put it side by side the original photograph by Tony Duran for comparison.

Evangeline Lilly photo by Tony Duran and drawing by Zindy Nielsen

I absolutely love detail, so I try to mirror this style in my own drawing (I tend to draw from photographs too.) More on this later.

The model is of course Evangeline Lilly of Lost fame. Please don’t be surprised if you see more of her on this blog!

You can find more of Zindy’s drawings at her site Zindy.Zone.dk.

What happens on a slow news day at Rocketboom?

I’ve been subscribed to Rocketboom for a while, but this is definately the best episode I’ve seen… maybe I’m not in the right demographic…

Isn’t it awesome?

‘Event’ful? Hardly

Well yes, the night of the ‘Christmas Ball’, ‘Christmas Event’ or as some people putridly attempt to call it ‘Crimble Mingle’ came and went on Wednesday, an ‘Event’ that has turned out to be rather disappointing every year since it first entered existence, was well, rather disappointing. There was some good music, lots of dancing (presumably of the amazing variety when it comes down to me), and a reasonably ok and a pretty crap band respectively but I’m sure the front row made sure they were all insulted healthily enough.

I enjoyed the event quite a lot, I hung round my new friends, who are not as 100% reliable and dedicated as my traditional friends, who seemed to be sat down all the time, I ended up always going back to them when I couldn’t find my partner (who wasn’t that positive, and my ‘friends’ who I didn’t know very well but I could dance with cos they’re cool with me, it’s all about the social build right? Probably.

One notable absence this year who made last year’s ball so much better for me, Laurence, a truly truly great friend, I miss him loads. (Maybe if I’d had a proper girl date partner thing, instead of just a ‘Mate date’ it would have been different)

It may interest you to know, that I got a lift back in my friend’s new Mini, or rather, new classic Mini (yes this is the same mate who wrote off his first cream coloured one), it’s maroon, and we went very fast at 2 o’clock in ther morning and he got me home, he and his girlfriend smoking in the car reminded me of classic 1950’s comic books, I hope he keeps this one good and up, but he has said he will not drive any safer after his experience. Foolish, no doubt, but only time will tell.

I spoke to Apple, who are gonna take back my fraying sparking “DANGERCORD!” and send me a new one - sexytime. Should be hear by Wednesday.

For now, I soldier on, - Casino Royale page count ‘17′.
